The four-year-old gelding is trained by Ed Dunlop, who is distinguishable in Australia for having prepared Red Cadeaux to not one, not two, but three second placings in the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington.

Following Trip To Paris’ win in the Group 1 Gold Cup (4000m), Dunlop said consideration would have to be given to a Melbourne Cup tilt.

“He's probably badly handicapped now, but yeah, he can quicken and goes on any ground so the race has to be considered,” Dunlop told the Racing Post.

Corporate bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has installed Trip To Paris as a $34 chance in their 2015 Melbourne Cup all-in betting market which is headed by Fame Game at $15.

Kingfisher finished 1.25 lengths away from Trip To Paris in the Gold Cup with a neck margin back to Forgotten Rules who had jumped the favourite.

Forgotten Rules is also in the market at $26.

Christian Jantzen from Sportsbet believes that Trip To Paris would be a strong Melbourne Cup contender should Dunlop decide to travel with the gelding.

“Aussie fans want to keep the Melbourne Cup in Australian hands but we feel a little bit sorry for Ed Dunlop. Trip To Paris shapes as a great chance to snare him a well overdue victory,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.

The son of Champs Elysees has raced on 16 occasions for six victories and two minor placings.

It was his first win at stakes level with his only other run in stakes company coming at his prior start when third behind Vent De Force in the Group 3 Henry II Stakes (3300m) at Sandown on May 28.
