The $1 million sprint has attracted a quality group of nominations including 14 individual Group 1 winners and will be run at Moonee Valley on Friday, October 21.

Rated the world’s best sprinter, Chautauqua resumed in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley last Friday night and suffered a shock loss as he battled into 4th place behind Extreme Choice, Heatherly and Wild Rain.

While Extreme Choice was not nominated for the Manikato Stakes, the unbeaten Russian Revolution, Golden Rose winner Astern and Golden Slipper winner Capitalist are other three-year-old acceptances.

2014 Manikato winner Lankan Rupee and 2013 hero Buffering also remain in contention for a second triumph, while Newmarket Handicap (1200m) winner The Quarterback and Godolphin’s Holler are also among acceptances.

The notable withdrawals were Ball of Muscle, Counterattack, Redzel and Voodoo Lad, with final acceptances for the race to be taken at 8.30am (AEST) on Tuesday, 18 October 2016.
